Mr. Schalka graduated from Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon, in 1978 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English Literature. He subsequently received a Masters of Business Administration Degree from Tulane University of Louisiana in 1980.
Mr. Schalka joined the Seattle firm of Shorett & Riely as a commercial appraiser in 1984. He received his MAI (Member of Appraisal Institute) designation in 1988, and in 1989 he co-founded the Shorett & Riely office in Bellevue, Washington. In 1990, he founded the firm of McKee & Schalka.
Mr. Schalka was previously employed in the Investment Department of Rainier National Bank from 1982 through 1984 as a Money Market Analyst and Securities Trader.
Mr. Schalka is a Certified General Real Estate Appraiser (Washington State Certificate No. 1100892), and he has also completed the requirement of the continuing education program of the Appraisal Institute. Mr. Schalka was awarded the Counselors of Real Estate (CRE) designation in 2010.
In his appraisal experience, he has appraised properties involving all major commercial property types including office, retail, industrial, residential, open space, and special purpose. These appraisals have typically involved properties located in the Seattle Metropolitan Area; however, specific assignments have been undertaken throughout the region. Assignments have included a number of complex analyses involving the valuation of leaseholds and other fractional interests, and absorption and discounted analyses of residential properties.
